Looking back, I still find it difficult to imagine a world war breaking out because of the deaths of two people. There had been wars before, and countless war-like conflicts and genocides from time immortal, but no one could have foreseen the type, nature and scope of destruction that Archduke Ferdinand and his wife's death triggered. If you had been a bystander in Sarajevo on June 28th, 1914 and watched as a Serbian leftist fired the fatal shots that killed the Archduke and his wife, you most likely would have never thought that what you just witnessed would result in the deaths of 22 million Europeans, and another 24 million casualties.
And I suspect that the Bosnia Serb, Gavrilo Princip who fired those shots had any understanding of the implications his actions would lead to.
So it is that I ask the people who blew up the Nord Stream 2 pipelines this week...Do you understand, do you have any understanding that your actions could and will lead to a new world war? Are you so dedicated to your uniform, and to your rank that you are comfortable being the spark that triggers the deaths of millions of Europeans, Germans, Russians, Brits and Americans? Are you so limited in your application of logic, loyalty, and commitment to service, that while you were flying the Navy P8 aircraft, and pressed the button to release the bombs that blew up the bombs that blew up the Russian gas pipelines, you didn't once ask yourself if it was right and moral?
It's just a pipeline...right? It will make our nation's enemies suffer...right? Was that your logic set off the bombs in the early morning hours?
Archduke Ferdinand was just a member of the royal family and really of no importance...right. What would his death, or that of his wife matter in the scheme of things?
Nord Stream 2 is just a metal pipe, what will it matter?
In the days to come, that question will be answered.
And I hope and pray for all those brave, patriotic and stoic men and women who are responsible for this act, that it won't come back to haunt your dreams and waking hours the rest of your lives. Rene Jax
